Description

A creamy caramel custard dessert that is a beloved classic in Spanish and Latin American cuisine.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 6 large eggs
  • 1 can (14 ounces) sweetened condensed milk
  • 1 can (12 ounces) evaporated milk
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a saucepan, melt the sugar over medium heat, stirring constantly until it turns golden brown. Immediately pour the caramel into a round baking dish, tilting to coat the bottom.
  3. In a blender, combine the eggs, sweetened condensed milk, evaporated milk, and vanilla extract. Blend until smooth.
  4. Pour the custard mixture over the caramel in the baking dish.
  5. Place the baking dish in a larger baking pan and fill it with water to create a water bath.
  6. Bake for about 50-60 minutes or until the flan is set. Let it cool, then refrigerate for at least 4 hours.
  7. To serve, run a knife around the edges and invert onto a serving plate.
