- 1 loaf day-old brioche or challah bread, torn into pieces
- 2 cups whole milk
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 3/4 cup granulated sugar
- 4 large eggs
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 8 ounces dark chocolate chunks
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
- In a large bowl, combine the torn bread pieces with milk and cream. Let it soak for about 15 minutes.
- In another bowl, whisk together sugar, eggs, vanilla, and salt until combined.
- Pour the egg mixture over the soaked bread, gently folding until incorporated.
- Fold in the dark chocolate chunks.
- Transfer the mixture to a greased baking dish.
- Bake for 40-50 minutes or until the top is golden and a knife inserted comes out clean.
- Let cool slightly before serving.
Notes
- Serve warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.
- Can be made a day ahead and reheated in the oven.
- Adjust the sugar based on the sweetness of the chocolate used.
